Experiencing God’s Empowering Presence Through Immanuel Journaling

Have you ever felt like God was distant, especially during hard times? It’s a struggle many believers face.

But the truth is, God sees you, hears you, and is with you in every moment of your life. In Exodus 3:7-8, God says to Moses,

I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them.

This same compassionate God longs to meet you where you are today. One powerful way to connect with Him is through Immanuel Journaling.

Here’s how to practice it step-by-step, with examples to guide you:

Step 1: Gratitude

Start by writing down what you’re thankful for. Gratitude opens your heart to God’s presence.

- Example: “God, I’m thankful for my family, the warm sun today, and the strength You gave me to get through this week.”

Then write from God’s perspective:

- “Dear child of mine, your gratitude brings Me joy. I delight in blessing you and walking with you each day.”

Step 2: I Can See You

Write what God observes about you right now—your emotions, thoughts, or even physical state.

- Example: “I see you sitting at your desk, feeling tired but determined. Your shoulders are tense from carrying so much responsibility.”

Step 3: I Can Hear You

Write what God hears in your heart—your prayers, worries, or even unspoken thoughts.

- Example: “I hear you saying, ‘God, do You really care? Will You help me?’ I hear your longing for peace and assurance.”

Step 4: I Understand How Big This Is for You

Write how God validates your struggles and acknowledges their weight.

- Example: “I understand how overwhelming this feels right now. You’re carrying so much on your own, and it seems like there’s no end in sight.”

Step 5: I Am Glad to Be With You

Write how God expresses His joy in being with you, even in your weakness or pain.

- Example: “I’m glad to be with you right now. Even when you feel weak or unsure, My love for you never changes.”

Step 6: I Can Do Something About What You’re Going Through

Write how God offers His help or guidance for your situation.

- Example: “Come to Me and rest (Matthew 11:28). Let Me carry this burden with you. Trust that I am working all things for good.”

Step 7: Read Aloud

Finally, read what you’ve written aloud. If possible, share it with a trusted friend or mentor for encouragement. _________________

Through Immanuel Journaling, we can experience the truth of Exodus 3:7-8 in our own lives—that God sees us, hears us, is concerned about us, and actively works to rescue us. Take some time today to try this journaling practice. As James 4:8 reminds us: “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.”
