Today I want to talk about something that’s been on my heart lately: the beautiful, intimate love story we have with God. You know, sometimes we think of our relationship with Him in terms of rules and regulations, but it’s so much more than that. It’s a love story like no other.
The Secret Connection
Have you ever felt overlooked or misunderstood? I know I have. There are times when I pour my heart into serving others, whether in ministry or just in daily life, and it feels like nobody notices.
But here's the comforting truth: God sees everything we do in secret. In Matthew 6:6, Jesus tells us,
But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen.
This verse reminds us that our Heavenly Father is always watching, not with a critical eye but with love and understanding.
Imagine it like this: when I make my famous apple dumplings for my family, I don’t do it for the applause. Sure, it’s nice to hear compliments, but the joy comes from knowing that I’m doing something special for them.
God feels the same way about you! He delights in our efforts, even when no one else sees them.
A Love That Knows No Bounds
God knows us better than we know ourselves. Isn’t that incredible? Just like a parent who sees their child’s potential even when they can’t see it themselves, God sees our hearts.
He understands our struggles and our desires. In 1 John 3:20, it says,
For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart and knows all things.
This means that even when we feel like we’re falling short, God knows our intentions and loves us unconditionally.
There was a time when I was feeling particularly discouraged in ministry. I was praying and seeking guidance when suddenly I felt this overwhelming sense of peace wash over me.
It was as if God said to me, “You are my daughter; I’m pleased with you.” Those words were like a balm to my soul! It reminded me that His love isn’t based on results but on our relationship.
The Sacrificial Nature of Love
We often hear about love being a feeling or an emotion. But true love is so much deeper than that—it’s sacrificial.
Jesus demonstrated this kind of love for us when He laid down His life on the cross (John 15:13). He didn’t just love us when we were perfect; He loved us in our messiness and imperfections.
Think about your own relationships—whether with family or friends. The strongest bonds are often forged through shared struggles and sacrifices.
When we choose to love someone despite their flaws or mistakes, we reflect the heart of Jesus.
This is what makes our relationship with God so unique; He loves us as we are but also calls us to grow closer to Him.
Listening for His Affirmation
In our busy lives, it can be easy to overlook those quiet moments where God speaks to us. Fear can sometimes drown out His voice of affirmation.
But remember, He longs to reassure us in those secret places—just like a gentle whisper saying “Well done.”
So how do we cultivate this intimacy? We need to create space for Him in our lives—through prayer, worship, and reading His Word. It’s in these moments that we can truly hear Him affirming us.
A Beautiful Love Story
At the end of the day, our relationship with The Father is a beautiful love story—a story of grace, redemption, and unwavering affection.
Just as Ruth clung to Naomi and trusted in God's plan (Ruth 1:16), we too can trust that God is orchestrating every detail of our lives for good.
So let’s embrace this love story! Let’s remember that it’s just between you and God—a sacred connection that no one can take away from you.
And as you go through your week, look for those moments where you can sense His empowering presence and hear His voice saying how much He loves you.
Until next time, keep your hearts open to the beautiful love story God is writing in your life!
