Hey, it's Cindy here.
After my chemo and radiation, my oncologist, Dr. Kovacs, told me the next step. I’d need to take a cancer drug for five years. I was okay with most of what he said, but one thing stuck with me—the drug Tamoxifen.
I couldn’t stop thinking about it, so I started researching. I wanted to know what was in it. I found some info, but it didn’t list the ingredients at first.
Here’s what I learned: Doctors say Tamoxifen has side effects like hot flashes, mood swings, and even risks like blood clots or uterine cancer. Those last two are rare but serious.
For women with advanced breast cancer, the benefits outweigh the risks. But for those with early-stage cancer, like small tumors, it’s a tougher choice. You need to weigh the benefits—like a 3% or 10% improvement—against the risks.
Some women feel Tamoxifen is a safety net. Others see it as something they can’t handle. Dr. Kovacs also mentioned that if Tamoxifen’s side effects are too much, there are other options.
Eventually, I found the ingredients in Tamoxifen:
Anhydrous lactose
Colloidal silicon dioxide
Crospovidone
Magnesium stearate
Microcrystalline cellulose
Sodium lauryl sulfate
That list didn’t tell me much, so I dug deeper. In the end, I decided Tamoxifen wasn’t for me.
Ladies, all I can say is do your own research on Tamoxifen’s ingredients. Make the choice that feels right for you.
