This is how my eye doctor explained central retinal artery occlusion to me.

"If one of the blood vessels leading to your eye's retina gets blocked, you might suddenly lose your vision, and it usually happens without any pain but sometimes people experience pain. This condition is known as a central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO).

"Your retina is the nerve layer at the back of your eye that picks up light. It converts what you see into electrical signals.

"Your optic nerve sends these signals to your brain. If a blood vessel gets blocked in your retina, it can be really serious.
